As of June 16, 2011 residential contractors will no longer be able to use the alternative fall protection measures (OSHA Directive 3.1) for protection from fall exposures in residential construction. They are now required to comply with the full fall protection requirements in the OSHA construction standards (29 CFR 1926 subpart M).
What It Means
OSHA requires employees subject to falls of 6 feet or more (10 feet on scaffolding), to a lower level on a construction site, be protected from injury through various means such as use of a personal fall arrest system, guard rail system, safety nets or more.
Learn How to Comply
To help residential constractors get up to speed on the requirements of the standard, the Peerless Loss Prevention Department has come out with a one-hour webinar to provide some guidance on how to comply with the regulations. The webinar will be offered several days and times to fit various schedules and will cover the basics of the standard as well as ways to comply with it.
