Experience the best of autumn in New England with a visit to the Davis Farmland orchard to pick fresh apples, meet barnyard and exotic animals and stroll through the pumpkin patch to choose your perfect gourd. Regular-priced tickets are $15.95. Visitors also love the Mega Maze, which contains 3.5 miles of pathways sculpted into 8 acres of field corn. This year’s theme is Black Beard’s Revenge and it includes many twists, turns and bridges.

Check out Lime Rock Park and its amazing race track. Vintage car races will be held throughout Labor Day Weekend, Sept 2-5, during the Lime Rock Park Historical Festival 29, presented by Jaguar. Ten district groups will participate in sprint races on Saturday and Monday, with practice laps and qualifying time trials taking place on Friday. See cars from before World War II, Formula Atlantic, Formula 2 vehicles, MG sports cars, Bugattis, Alpha Romeos, and Jaguars.

Central Massachusetts’ largest fair features a white Bengal tiger show, a demolition derby, a motorcycle show, agricultural exhibits and karaoke contests. Celebrating its 123rd anniversary, it will be held Labor Day Weekend (Sept 2-5). General admission is $10 and children under age 7 are free.

King Richard’s Faire is turning 30 this year. New England’s favorite Renaissance fair runs weekends from Sept. 3to Oct 23, featuring hundreds of entertainers, an artisans marketplace, a royal zoo, carnival rides and skilled games on 80 enchanted acres. Feast on spit-roasted giant turkey legs, chowder and stew, and ringlets of fries. Tickets cost $27 for adults and $15 for children ages 4-15.

The largest fair in the Northeast will be held Sept. 16 to Oct. 2, with top name entertainment, The Big E Super Circus, the Avenue of States and the Storrowton Village Museum, as well as animals, exhibits, rides, shopping, crafts, a Mardi Gras parade and food from around the world. The fair is home to the Bog E Cream Puff and Craz-E Burger – a bacon cheeseburger sandwiched between a glazed donut.

Held Sept. 30 through Oct. 10, the Topsfield Fair offers something different every day, with parades, concerts and contests. Highlights include the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, on opening day, and a show by Mike Posner will be held on Oct. 8. On Saturday, Oct. 1 there will be a grand parade and fireworks. Regular-priced tickets cost $10 on weekdays and $12 on weekends and Columbus Day.

Experience the glow of thousands of pumpkins at the Roger Williams Park Zoo. The artfully hand-carved jack-o-lanterns depict people, places and scenes from popular culture as well as old-time favorites and everything in between. The event will be held 6-10 pm daily from Oct. 6 to 31. Monday-Thursday tickets cost $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $9 for children ages 3-12. Friday, Saturday and Sunday tickets cost $14 for adults, $12 for seniors and $11 for children ages 3-12.

AppleFest will be held Oct. 15 and 16, and it features more than 60 craft fair and farmer’s market booths, family entertainment, a birds of prey show by the Raptor Project, chainsaw carving demonstrations, scenic foliage skyrides to the summit, a mountainside barbecue with seasonal ales in the beer tent, pony and hay rides, and clowns, jugglers and magicians. AppleFest is just one in a series of festivals Wachusett hosts in late summer and fall. Others include a folk festival on Aug. 21, MusicFest on Sept. 11, KidsFest on Sept. 24 and 25, and the Great New England BBQ Festival Oct. 22 and 23.
